Frequently Asked Questions

Q: WHAT DOES IT COST?

A: Prices vary depending on which van, how long for, and when you're booking. For an accurate instant quote, go to Book page and enter your dates into the calendar. The price will show below the calendar.

Q: DO YOU CHARGE EXTRA OVER A CERTAIN MILEAGE?

A: Yes. 100 miles per night of your booking is included, any excess over that is chargeable at 25 pence per mile, which is deducted from your security deposit. For example if you book 7 nights and cover 800 miles, then the charge is for 100 miles (£25).

Q: CAN I BRING MY DOG?

A: You can bring up to two well behaved dogs at a charge of £30 per dog.

Q: WHEN ARE YOUR CAMPERS AVAILABLE?

A: On the Book page you'll find a calendar which shows availability, and here you can also find the cost for your dates.

Q: WHAT DRIVING LICENCE DO I NEED?

A: No, all our vehicles can be driven on a normal UK driving licence. ALL drivers must be aged between 25 and 75 (inclusive). All drivers must hold a licence showing they are able to drive a UK category B Vehicle up to 3500kg GMW. We cannot rent to drivers with more than 6 points on their licence, or have a AC BA CD DD DG DR IN LC MR MS MW TT or UT conviction, or been suspended in the last 8 years. If you have a single 4-point endorsement please contact us before booking.

We accept any other driving licences which allow driving of a 3500kg GMW vehicle provided you have driven in the UK for at least 2 years, and have no convictions.

Q: WHERE CAN I FIND YOUR FULL TERMS AND CONDITIONS?

A: On the Resources page.

Q: IS THERE A DEPOSIT?

A: Yes, a £1000 deposit must be paid at collection. This must be in cleared funds and can be paid by bank transfer or debit / credit card. This will be refunded within 2 days of your return, less any breakages or costs for repair of damage, unless we are waiting for a damage repair quote. If you paid by card, we will send you proof of refund within 2 days but allow up to 10 working days for it to appear in your account. If you paid by bank transfer, it'll be back in your account on the day you return the van.

Q: IS INSURANCE EXTRA?

A: Fully comprehensive insurance is included in your price for up to two drivers in the UK including Northern Ireland. For trips to Europe, all our vehicles except Clio are insured for the following countries and includes breakdown cover: Andorra, Austria, Belgium, Czech Republic, Denmark, Eire, Finland, France, Germany, Italy, Liechtenstein, Luxembourg, Monaco, Netherlands, Norway, Portugal, San Marino, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland, Vatican City. There is an additional £50 charge for travelling to Europe which includes your VE103 insurance certificate required for taking any UK hire vehicle into Europe.

You should take out your own travel insurance as ours doesn't cover you for medical expenses, death, personal injury or repatriation costs.

Q: WHAT IS THE INSURANCE EXCESS?

A: The excess is £1000. This is the maximum amount you will have to pay in the event of damage to the motorhome, its fittings or its contents. If the repair cost is below £1000 we will refund you the difference by whatever method you used to pay the deposit. If the repair cost is £1000 or more then we will retain your security deposit in full.

Q: CAN I REDUCE MY EXCESS?

A: Yes, we offer an option to reduce your excess from £1000 to £99 for just £10 per night that you've booked. Alternatively if you will be hiring a car or motorhome anywhere in Europe within 12 months of the start of this holiday, or you are renting from us for a long period, take a look at the RAC excess policy Car Hire Excess Insurance | Rental Protection Cover | RAC. Be sure to select an ANNUAL policy, and then after you click 'Buy Now' add the Motorhome option (£29.99). They don't do short term cover for motorhomes.

Q: WHAT'S PROVIDED AND WHAT SHOULD I BRING?

A: On the Resources page you'll find a pdf document showing everything that's included, and a checklist of things you may want to bring. You'll need to bring your own bedding, but we can provide pillows. Please note: a TV is fitted in Tigger, both Hugos, both Roosters and Goose, but there is no TV in Clio, Piglet or Froggy; you can hire a WiFi hotspot at extra cost for any van.

Q: ARE THESE VEHICLES DIFFICULT TO DRIVE?

A: Clio, Tigger, Piglet, Froggy and the Hugos are small vans and easy to drive for anyone who's comfortable with a large car. Rooster and Goose are longer and need a confident driver who's driven vans before, but they are not difficult to drive. For Goose1 and Goose2 you need to have prior experience of driving a larger vehicle.

Q: WHAT ABOUT WATER AND THE TOILET?

A: Every few days you'll need to fill up with water, empty your grey tank (that's waste water from your shower, sink and basin), and empty your black waste (that's your toilet waste). Grey and black waste must only be disposed of at authorised waste points, and camp sites are always your best bet as they have all these facilities. You cannot dispose of your toilet waste at a public toilet. If you're heading to Scotland there are some other approved locations which you'll find on this website. Many European countries are also far better equipped for disposal points than you'll find in Wales or England, for example 'aires' in France.

Q: WHAT ABOUT POWER - DO I NEED A HOOKUP?

A: All vans have a leisure battery which runs all your systems such as heating, hot water, lights and USB charging points. The battery is charged when driving, and when hooked up at a camp site. In addition, all our vans have a solar panel which will also keep the battery topped up provided there aren't several very gloomy days in a row. Finally, hairdryers and toasters do not work unless you are hooked up (though you can do toast under the gas grill on all vans except Clio and Piglet). Clio's microwave only works on hookup.

Q: DO YOU HAVE ANY VEHICES WITH AUTOMATIC GEARBOXES?

A: Both Hugos, Rooster, Goose1 and Goose2 are automatic. Clio, Tigger, Piglet, Froggy are manual.

Q: DO I NEED LEVELLING BLOCKS?

A: Levelling blocks are essential if you're parked on unlevel ground. They are heavy-duty plastic ramps that you can drive onto, on one or two of the wheels. We include levelling blocks with each van at no extra charge.

Q: IS THERE A WIND-OUT AWNING FOR SUN SHADE?

A: Rooster, Goose1 and Goose2 have a wind-out awning. You can hire a simple sun awning for all other vans.

Q: IS THERE A DRIVE-AWAY AWNING TENT?

A: Yes, you can hire a 3x3m wide inflatable awning tent called a Vango Jura to fit Piglet, Tigger, Froggy, and the Hugos . The cost is £20 per night. It takes 30-45 minutes to put up so is best for breaks where you're staying in one place at least a few days. You can detach it from the van and leave it at the camp site when you want to go away for the day. Clio has a simpler side tent also available at £20 per night which takes about 20 minutes to put up.

Q: WHAT IF I BREAK DOWN?

A: RAC breakdown cover is included in your price and covers all of the UK and Europe. If you have a puncture they will deal with it but it's chargeable - it may be quicker to find someone local. We have never had a puncture to date.

Q: WHEN DO I HAVE TO PAY THE BALANCE?

A: The deposit is 25% payable at booking, the balance is due 8 weeks before departure. If you book less than 8 weeks before you're leaving, the whole amount is due at booking.

Q: WHAT IF I HAVE TO CANCEL?

A: The deposit is not refunded. If you cancel between 8 weeks (56 days) and 3 weeks (21 days) before your departure date, 50% of the total holiday cost is payable. If you cancel less than 3 weeks (20 days) before your departure date or don't attend on collection day, then the whole cost is payable.

Q: CAN I TAKE BIKES?

A: Clio, Froggy, Tigger and both Hugos have the option to add a bike rack, maximum 2 bikes. Rooster, Goose1 and Goose2 have the option of a bike rack that takes up to 4 bikes. In all cases the charge is £6 per night.  Note that Rooster has a very big garages which takes bikes, email frcampers@gmail.com or call us for advice. Electric bikes can't go on bike racks, they are too heavy, but they can go in the garage on Rooster.

Q: CAN I LEAVE MY CAR WITH YOU?

A: Yes. You can drive to us and offload directly into the camper, leaving the car with us. The car will normally be parked directly outside our industrial unit, though we'll park it inside or at our nearby secure compound if we have space. You'll need to leave us a key as we may need to move it in and out of the unit occasionally as our vehicles are returned. There is no storage charge.

Q: IS THERE A MINIMUM NUMBER OF NIGHTS I HAVE TO RENT FOR?

A: Yes, when you enter the dates on the calendar it'll tell you the minimum number of nights which varies by van and date. All vans are subject to minimum 3 nights year round, some months are 4 nights, and peak times in the bigger vans is 7 nights minimum.

Q: CAN I CHOOSE ANY START DAY?

A: Please see below the calendar on the Book page.

Q: WHAT TIME CAN I COLLECT, AND WHEN DO YOU NEED IT BACK?
A: Collection is from 2pm on the departure day (for 2026 bookings this is changing to 11am), and we need the vehicle back by 11am on your return day. For 2026 bookings you can choose the option to return later by 6pm at extra charge. We'll do our best to give you flexibility where we can. We may be able to tell you before you book - just email us at frcampers@gmail.co.uk.

Q: WILL YOU SHOW US HOW EVERYTHING WORKS?

A: Yes, we will give you comprehensive handover training and there are guidance cards in the vehicle to remind you. Please note it takes 60-90 minutes  to hand over if you don't have previous experience, so if picking up at 2pm please allow to leave up to 3.30pm. However there are also handover videos on each van on the Resources page which will reduce the handover time significantly.

Q: CAN WE GET DISCOUNTS ON ANY CAMP SITES?

A: We are members of The Camping and Caravanning Club Motorhome Hire Scheme, which entitles you to up to 30% off Club Sites. In your vehicle you will find a copy of the Camping and Caravanning Club Motorhome Hire Guide, which lists all participating sites (excluding Certified sites) helping you to choose the perfect location throughout your entire journey. You can also find details of their sites on the Club website https://www.campingandcaravanningclub.co.uk/siteseeker/
When you've booked the Club Site you'd like to stay on, all you have to do is show the Motorhome Hire key fob on arrival to claim your discount - you'll find this on your keyring.
